Join us for the Region II Science Olympiad to be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Truman State University!
Science Olympiad is an exciting competition in which teams of up to fifteen students test their skills in the areas of physical and life sciences, technology and scientific inquiry. Events may involve quizzes, lab experiments, games, or building devices such as cars or bridges. The competition is split into two divisions by grade level: Division C: Senior High Level (9th – 12th) and Division B: Junior High Level (6th – 9th). Medals are awarded for outstanding individual event performances and trophies are awarded to the top performing teams in each division, with the top four teams earning the opportunity to compete at the State Science Olympiad, held April 19 at the University of Central Missouri.
How do we compete in Science Olympiad?
- Download the rules manuals, which are freely available online from the National Science Olympiad website (https://www.soinc.org/rules-2025).
- Go to our State Science Olympiad website www.missouriso.org for information on registering your team(s). Completed membership allows for one team to compete at the regional level, the state level (if you qualify) and the national level (if you qualify), as well as insurance coverage for the students at any sanctioned event. Discounted membership is available for schools that did not participate last year and for schools that send multiple teams in a division, including the opportunity to send three teams per school!
- Assemble your team and prepare your events!
If you are new to Science Olympiad, or if you are looking for tips to help your team, take a look at the Coaches Information at https://www.missouriso.org/coaches-information. In particular, the Coaches Training Manual provides lots of information about organizing a team. Some of the details will be updated for the 2024 season, but there is great information!
Information specific to the Region II competition is at our website scienceolympiad.truman.edu. Much more information on individual events and on Science Olympiad in general is available at the National (www.soinc.org) and State (www.missouriso.org) Science Olympiad websites.
We would love to see you and your students in Kirksville! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
